Meeting Stringent Lighting Requirements with Low Glare Solution at LyondellBasell Channelview Complex.
CU Phosco Lighting, in partnership with FINE EX LAMPS, has successfully implemented an advanced high mast lighting solution at the LyondellBasell Channelview Complex. The project aimed to ensure optimal safety illumination across the extensive industrial site while minimizing glare in the surrounding areas. Through meticulous planning, cutting-edge technology, and close collaboration, the project achieved remarkable results.
LyondellBasell, a global leader in sustainable material solutions and recycling technologies, operates the Channelview Complex, the world’s largest Propylene Oxide Tertiary Butyl Alcohol (PO/TBA) plant. Located thirty miles east of downtown Houston on the Gulf Coast, the complex covers nearly 4,000 acres and plays a crucial role in producing materials essential to modern life.
FINE EX LAMPS, specializing in industrial lighting solutions and electrical distribution equipment, teamed up with CU Phosco to address the complex’s lighting needs for safety and efficiency.
Mitchell Fine, a sales engineer, explained, “A lead design engineer at Fluor Enterprises proposed using high mast lighting for this project to meet the stringent lighting requirements. We conducted lighting calculations using CU Phosco’s Lighting Reality software, which LyondellBasell approved. Our collaboration with CU Phosco included providing equipment drawings and receiving prompt responses from their technical department.”
Objectives
The primary objectives of the project were to ensure a minimum average light level of 50 lux across the 140-acre site, achieve uniform visibility, and minimize glare both on-site and in neighboring industrial areas.
Solution
The collaboration between CU Phosco and FINE EX LAMPS produced outstanding results. The FL800R LED floodlighting system exceeded expectations, meeting the challenging lighting requirements while offering numerous benefits. Its exceptional energy efficiency, achieved through high lumen output with minimal lumen depreciation over time, resulted in substantial energy and operational cost savings by eliminating wasted light.
Enhanced safety and visual performance across the site were achieved, meeting stringent lighting objectives and contributing to a more secure environment due to improved visibility. The system’s versatile mounting options allowed for seamless integration into existing infrastructure, leading to significant cost savings. This aligns with LyondellBasell’s commitment to sustainability, as LED technology reduces energy consumption and carbon emissions.
The FL800R system’s durability, ensured by its AeroFlow® Cooling System and high-quality components, proved effective even in harsh environments, delivering consistently high performance. The design’s focus on minimal glare enhanced safety and promoted a dark sky-friendly environment, reducing light pollution and benefiting both the facility and its surroundings.
Mitchell Fine of FINE EX LAMPS shared his experience: “CU Phosco’s high mast lighting solution surpassed our expectations. The FL800R LED floodlighting system not only met the challenging lighting requirements but also demonstrated exceptional energy efficiency and durability. The collaboration between our teams ensured a seamless implementation process, and the client’s satisfaction speaks volumes about the quality of the results.”
Conclusion
The successful installation of CU Phosco’s high mast lighting solution at LyondellBasell’s Channelview Complex is an excellent example of the power of collaboration and innovative technology in achieving safety, efficiency, and sustainability objectives. The project not only met stringent lighting requirements but also contributed to energy savings, reduced carbon emissions, and enhanced visual performance across the expansive industrial site.
